My father's favorite bird was the Northern Cardinal. As a child I would listen to him whistle the exact call of a male cardinal which led to a few "arguments" between him and a local male. It was fun to watch them whistle back and forth to each other and see the male cardinal fluff up his feathers at my dad! This colored pencil piece was in memory of my father.
Interesting Fact: Both male and female cardinals sing with over 24 different songs!
