One of my favorite things to do when we lived by woodlands was to sit on the porch late at night.  Almost every night I would hear a pair of Great Horned Owls calling back and forth.  They have somewhat eerie yet beautiful vocalizations.  A few times I was blessed to see one of them fly to a low branch in one of our trees or to the top of our neighbor's flag pole.

Interesting Facts:

• Great Horned Owls are known as "Tiger Owls" or "Flying Tigers"
• Great Horned Owls mate for life.
• Great Horned Owls have no sense of smell and will prey upon skunks.
